These fights come around a bit too often, feeling at times that as soon as you’ve successfully defeated an enemy and have set back on your way again, you are suddenly thrown into yet another long battle. Fights are a common occurrence throughout all levels and unfortunately at times can feel like you’ve spent the best part of the last 10 minutes smashing the square button as quickly as possible. Gameplay sees Lu running from left to right on each level fighting seemingly un-ending waves of extremely tough enemies. This is not only due to the disappointing quality of in-game sound effects and voice acting but also due to a lack of story depth.

The story elements of HDL unfortunately don’t do a great job of pulling any of the player’s heart strings. On his journey to recover his memory, Lu learns that his friends have also been murdered by the organisation and sets out for revenge.

Lu learns of a riot in the prison and all the inmates (apart from himself, of-course) were murdered by “The Organization”. Set In ancient China, HDL’s protagonist Lu – an expert fighter who has gained powers of super strength from the dragon cauldron – suffers from amnesia and finds himself regaining consciousness in a dungeon.
